Last updated 13 October 2026. Aangan is the gas meter app for the residents of Mangalam Ecstasy, Bengaluru. This explains what it keeps, why, and who sees it. No advertising, no analytics, no trackers.
Who is responsible
Aangan is run for the Mangalam Ecstasy residents’ association, which decides the rates and keeps the society’s accounts. The app is built and operated by Yohan Kumar, Bengaluru, on the association’s behalf.
What Aangan keeps, and why
Your email address, and the flat it belongs to, as the society office gave them: to send you the code that signs you in and to show you your own flat’s meter and bills. The society may also give a mobile number for the flat, kept for the office.
The photos of your gas meter you take in the app, and the reading from each: to make your bill, and so the office can check a reading that looks wrong.
Your bills: the units used, the rates, the amount, when it was due and whether it is paid. These are the society’s accounts.
That is the complete list. Aangan does not ask for your location, your contacts or anything else on your phone. The camera is used only when you take a meter photo.
Who else handles it
Anthropic reads the number in each meter photo (the Claude model). The photo is sent to Anthropic for that one reading; Anthropic does not use it to train its models.
Zoho Books, the society’s accounting software, receives each bill as an invoice under your flat number, with the email for receipts. Paying online happens on Zoho’s page, through its payment provider. Aangan never sees your card or bank details.
Google: once the society connects its Google account, each billed reading and its photo are copied to the society’s own Google Sheet and Drive, as its record.
Resend sends the sign in codes and reminder emails.
DigitalOcean runs the server and database, in Bengaluru.
Each of them handles the data only to do that job, on our instructions. We do not sell it, share it with advertisers, or use it for anything else.
Where it is kept and for how long
The server and database are in India (DigitalOcean, Bengaluru). Anthropic, Zoho and Google may process the parts sent to them outside India; none are in a country India restricts.
Readings, photos and bills are kept as long as the society keeps its accounts, because they are its accounts. A photo you took but did not send is deleted within two days.
Deleting your account
In the app: Account, Delete my account. That removes your sign in at once. Your flat’s readings and bills stay with the society, because they are its records, not your personal profile. See Delete your account.
To have your email taken off the flat, or a photo removed, ask the society office or write to us.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of what Aangan holds about you, have it corrected, or have it erased where the society does not need to keep it for its accounts. Email us; we will not charge you or ask why. You may also nominate someone to act for you, as the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 allows, by emailing us from your address.
Children
Aangan is for the adults responsible for a flat’s bills. We do not knowingly give an account to anyone under 18.
If your data is ever exposed
If a security incident affects your personal data, we will tell the people affected by email without undue delay, and the authorities where the law requires, saying what happened and what to do.
